Hometown Brands, Hometown Agency, Hometown Legacy

Growing up in Santa Rosa, CA, I never fully appreciated the privilege until I ventured to other states. My childhood memories include swimming at Mayette Swim Center, embarking on field trips to Bodega Bay during elementary school, and hanging out with friends at Chloe’s Cafe after school during middle school. However, it was only when I explored different parts of the United States that I truly grasped how uniquely wonderful Sonoma County remains to this day!

At Tavelli Co., we’re always thrilled to collaborate with companies we’ve encountered through the airwaves or whose services we’ve used in various capacities throughout our lives. Hometown businesses hold a special place in our hearts because we often have personal connections with them. And while we may not be the smallest agency anymore, when we receive referrals from these local companies and hear about interest from local business prospects, we are always thrilled.

Reputation is something that develops over decades, and that’s why conducting business ethically is crucial. A hallmark of a robust business lies in its ability to attract customers from its own community. There’s a sense of accountability in fostering these local relationships. At Tavelli Co., our founder has owned the same building in the same location for decades. Our company footprint seems to be aligned with this as well, considering we work with a high concentration of companies spanning all throughout Sonoma County. As one of our founder’s sons, I have fond memories of attending office Christmas parties, staring at the fish in the fish tank, and eventually contributing to our family business. Our deep connection to this place, where we’ve grown up and cherished, underscores the importance of community ties. In fact, our company’s strong ties and accountability within our community benefit all clients we currently work with throughout all of California.

Roughly a year ago I was placed in charge of sales at Tavelli Co. This means I was given the important task of pitching new prospective clients in need of a collection agency. Normally, I would have never taken a sales position. However, throughout the years I have learned one important rule when it comes to sales: “Sales is only difficult, when you don’t believe in the product or service you are offering or selling.”

Sales isn’t about harming the company or the person you’re selling to; it’s about finding partnerships and deals that benefit everyone involved. Consider this scenario: imagine two friends competing in a fantasy football league. One has a roster filled with an abundance of excellent running backs, while the other boasts three incredible wide receivers. However, the league rules allow each team to start only two running backs and two receivers per game. If both friends lack depth in their respective positions and are slated to finish near last among their friend group, a strategic trade could improve both of their starting rosters. Picture the outcome: now they might finish 3rd and 4th or even 1st and 2nd. This, my friends, is what sales truly entails—not the cutthroat world depicted in movies like “The Wolf of Wall Street.” Sales becomes challenging only when you’re peddling the wrong product or service! Strategic business partnerships should improve both parties involved.

This is why here at Tavelli Co. sales is truly a delightful part of my day. When prospective clients call in, they can often tell a difference. We aren’t a shadowy call center or a place where employees are circling in and out of the business like a revolving door. It’s not simply about personal selling abilities; it’s about the confidence I have in our staff and industry leading experience. In essence, B2B services become effortless when you prioritize service quality and continually improve day by day. This commitment to improvement is another significant aspect of my role. I am confident that when consumers reach our collections line, they are likely to encounter some of the most courteous and polite people they will interact with that day. Just today someone commented that the people he had dealt with were “friendly and accommodating.” Our staff possesses the expertise and training to address any issues promptly, escalating them up the chain of command as needed. Lastly, I have full faith in the experience and meticulous attention to detail exhibited by our leadership team!

While I’ve never worked for a large corporation, I recognize the challenges they face when scaling. Companies often take calculated risks to grow, risking the loss of their original brand identity (such as exceptional customer service or a small business atmosphere). However, at Tavelli Co., we’ve experienced continued growth without compromising service quality. Our strategic hiring and focus on quality individuals have actually improved key areas as we scale.

Ultimately, there are many great options out there when it comes to partnering with or finding the right collection agency. However, what I always say is that “we are a safe bet!” We have been in this community for decades. Our team is great and many of us have been with the company for years and some (going back to our previous company) even decades. We love Santa Rosa, Sonoma County, and all that Northern California has to offer! And we still believe that with hard work and perseverance, we can continue to build and create one of the best receivables management services in the nation. This is why here at Tavelli Co., we are always delighted when hometown brands choose our hometown service!
